House Republicans are so obstinate that they cannot even bring themselves to agree with other Republicans.

Courtesy of HuffPo:

The House of Representatives voted Friday night to avert a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, so they can come back and have the same fight in a week.

The vote was the result of a divide between Republicans in the House and Senate over whether to surrender now or hold out for one more week. The GOP had been hoping to use the DHS funding battle to block President Barack Obama's latest executive actions on immigration. Senate Democrats successfully pushed Republican leaders to allow a full-year DHS bill without immigration riders. That legislation passed the Senate 68 to 31 earlier on Friday, after even the most hardline Republicans said the effort to kill Obama's plans through the funding bill was futile.

But House Republicans weren't ready to cave. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) brought a three-week continuing resolution to a vote Friday afternoon, only to be blocked when 52 Republicans joined the majority of Democrats in opposing it. House GOP leaders had to regroup, apparently reaching a deal with the more conservative members of their caucus to bring up a smaller stopgap measure that would keep operations running at DHS for just one more week.

The Senate first passed the one-week continuing resolution by a voice vote, just hours before DHS was poised to shut down. The House then approved the measure by a roll call vote of 357 to 60. President Barack Obama signed it into law just before midnight. A majority of Democrats joined Republicans to vote for the short-term fix, after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told her colleagues that the passage of the one-week resolution would assure a vote on a full funding bill next week.

This is of course nothing but really bad Kabuki theater, because when a week is up and the Republicans try to force through a funding bill that strips funding for the immigration piece, the President will veto it, and they will be back at square one.

I know the Republicans are hoping that the American people will blame any government shutdown or defunding of Homeland Security on Obama, but history has proven that is unlikely to be the case.

Right now the American people are watching is disgust as the Republicans, who now control both the House and the Senate, fight among themselves while the President pushes to do something significant about our broken immigration policies.

This seems like a lose/lose for the GOP, and a huge win for the man in the Oval Office.

Some of these current Republicans in our U.S. Congress have really made their party look bad throughout the years of President Obama and before he was elected!

I will NEVER vote for a Republican for the rest of my life! On the national, state or city levels!

It truly is no wonder Congress has such an unfavorable rating from Americans across the country. They are absolute idiots to think they will not be blamed for the crap that have been doing! Their obstruction of President Obama have been their worst dastardly deeds!

    Fuck them!

Finally was able to see the C-PAC kissy-kissy Boehner "reply" to the journalist's serious questions. It reminded me of that Kimmerman smile when he was acquitted & I am sure Boehner was drunk: trying to focus, keep from laughing. What a creep!
HOW does he keep getting re-elected? How corrupt is his riding? what the hell is his game in all this? it just looks like suicide for the gop to me. But I'm sane and don't drink to abuse so can't see his rational or anything funny about the question. That he knows he is being taped and doesn't appear to care means his constituency is exactly like him I guess. How sickening.

This C-span video should be on every TV station (and maybe it has), but what good would it do? Ignornants who vote for this anti-government mob only watch Fox or nothing so have no idea what Boehner did.

o/t Grphen, put perhaps worth an item all on its own: the New York Times reports today about all the books and merchandise being sold at the CPAC convention. Here is an excerpt:

" But the merging of political and profit motives has gotten to the point where many Republicans say they fear that their nominating process has begun to look like a machine for generating and heightening brand awareness.

“There are a lot of reasons for running for president,” said Stephen K. Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News. “And getting to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue often isn’t one of them.”

I don't know how to do links, but there's lots more in the article. Right at the top, it points out that Palin's lame book on Christmas was being sold as she was speaking; Donald Trump had a big display with all sorts of his merchandise.
Newt Gingrich put in an endorsement of his wife's books for children during his speech.

Republicans make me sick to my stomach!

The registered voters across the nation need to get to their voting places and cast their ballots (anti Republicans) in 2016. I plan to assist in getting the vote out when the time comes and I hope many of you reading this blog do the same.

I so hope Hillary Clinton runs as there is no one the Republicans have that is as qualified and experienced! She'll beat the shit out of them and they know it!

Ripping her apart as they are already doing is not going to work!

      Ok-- I'll do so.
In this instance, though, I've given enough of the sense of the story that anyone who's interested in reading the rest can just go to the NYT website. You can get ten free views per month before hitting their paywall. Thanks for the advice, though, and I'll take you up on it.

Actually my comment is off target abit. Ive been looking into articles related to queen of uk and how her family became royal. It is looking like Ancestry DNA may be correcting a few mistakes, wrongs and rights in the genealogy ancestry DNA world. So many dictators and their little families all over the world. WHAT WHY AND HOW do these families gain power and brainwash the masses? I will tell ya. fear, fraud, lies, religion and money. As the world spins the dictators continue. VOTE AND VOTE OUT those dictating families for a brighter future in the USA and around the world. Time for change

I don't know how to do links …

Well, you could go to Google and type in: how to do links , which would take you to this page or something similar. But that would give you advice on how to make clickable links, which readers can actually click on with their mouse—like "this page" just above. By local standards, though, that would be overkill. Most people just copy the contents of their browser's location field (while the target page is being displayed) into the text of their message. All you need to be able to do that is to know how to do copy/paste. See, for example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c66pvfilotA

Actually, my comment went into the wrong spot. I had clicked on the Reply link directly below your comment, but blogspot made my entry into a comment on the article rather than a followup to your comment. I've seen this happen before, when the comment being replied to is the one most recently posted.

  7. It worked, but I had to put the COPY & PASTED 4 lines into the address bar at the top of your internet browser. -- you can't just click on it.

I am copying those 4 lines and pasting.
Then hitting publish. I'll see how it looks when Gryph posts it. Will it come out in blue? & will one be able to click on it like the blue line in Ted Powell's post above?

Boo hoo hoo, first the Retugs were whining that they couldn't get anything done because they didn't have a majority.

Now they have the majority, still are the do nothing party of stupid.

Are they going to play spin the wheel of excuses (like the oil companies when gas prices go up) to come up with another excuse of the week?

  17. We know who to blame.

Whether they are in the minority, obstructing the budget or in the majority, pushing an activist poison pill budget, the REPUBLICANS are to blame for shutting down the government.

I only wish they did it closer to the 2016 election. The memories of the voter are so short.
