This, this is why we need to always vote Democrat.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Democrats have reversed the partisan imbalance on the federal appeals courts that long favored conservatives, a little-noticed shift with far-reaching consequences for the law and President Obama’s legacy.

For the first time in more than a decade, judges appointed by Democratic presidents considerably outnumber judges appointed by Republican presidents. The Democrats’ advantage has only grown since late last year when they stripped Republicans of their ability to filibuster the president’s nominees.

Democratic appointees who hear cases full time now hold a majority of seats on nine of the 13 United States Courts of Appeals. When Mr. Obama took office, only one of those courts had more full-time judges nominated by a Democrat.

The shift, one of the most significant but unheralded accomplishments of the Obama era, is likely to have ramifications for how the courts decide the legality of some of the president’s most controversial actions on health care, immigration and clean air. Since today’s Congress has been a graveyard for legislative accomplishment, these judicial confirmations are likely to be among its most enduring acts.

Yes, this is how we protect our country and our civil liberties from the conservatives who have tried to knock us back to the judicial stone age.

Just imagine if Hillary wins two terms. Justice Kennedy is 78, as is Scalia.

Ginsberg is 81 and Breyer 76.

The others are somewhat younger, but you never know what can happen with a person's health.

And besides even if Hillary only manages to replace Scalia on the conservative side of the bench, and the not always reliable Kennedy she will have made an incredible impact on this country for decades to come.

And of course that does not take into consideration all of the federal judges that will, and have been, appointed during the Obama and Clinton administrations.

Just look how many Obama has appointed already.

Yes this is where the real political impact is felt, and of course the conservatives are well aware of that fact. So expect this next election cycle to make the previous look like a trip to Disneyland.

Not to be too fussy, but it should read "This, this is why we always need to vote Democratic." Calling the Democratic Party the Democrat Party is a GOP way to deride it opposition. I am a Democrat; I belong to the Democratic Party.

This is exactly why idiots shouldn't have opinions about things they are willfully ignorant of.
Like all regressives your a dinosaur that doesn't know it's extinct.

You are an ignorant moron. Feel free to join the discussion just as soon as you can stop drooling and can come up with something intelligent to say. Or hell, even something stupid (intelligent being a stretch for you), but at least true.

Anon 5:12: try a class in critical thinking skills, it might help clear your mind, refresh your intellectual palate. Until then, turn Fox off.

@5:12 am. Bottom line is these crimes are because of religious fanatics who resent foreign influence in their countries, and have nothing to do with President Obama, or anyone else.

Short term however, this was all predictable, and absolutely forecast by many people, as soon as Western countries started meddling in the Mid east.

After the occupation of Constantinople by British and French troops in November 1918, the Ottoman government collapsed completely and signed the Treaty of Sèvres in 1920.

Subsequently, many of the mideast countries were occupied, and granted protectorate status under Britain and France, which many hard core Muslims greatly resented.

America's involvement with the Saudis in the 1930s produced the Aramco oil company, and the fanatics go even more incensed that unbelievers were present in their sanctuary.

Learn some fucking history, do some thinking for yourself, and stop puking forth Fox news talking points about complex matters that you obviously know nothing about.

You sound just about as ignorant as $arah "do you know who I am" Palin

This is fantastic news! People underestimate the importance of the courts and do so at their peril. Replacing either Scalia or Kennedy would be HUGE, let alone replacing both.

Anon@ 7:02 At the very least, we should have an age limit. The rest will definitely not go very far, because of Career/Self Protection by all members of all parties.

Hillary Clinton should give Republicans nightmares after her impressive speech in Iowa at the Harkin Steak Fry. If this is what 2016 will look like, Republicans are going to be steamrolled by Hillary Clinton.

Nate Silver: Nobody Knows What The Heck Is Happening In Alaska Senate

It is one of a handful of races that could determine which party controls the Senate next year, but analysts -- including the veritable Nate Silver of Five Thirty Eight -- agree that the polling in the Alaska Senate race is an absolute mess.

  11. When I hear people whining about the president this and that I always reminds them the most important thing a president does is pick Supreme Court justices and federal judges. Social justice and the whole tenor of a country's philosophy lies in what courts deem constitutional--and their is a whole lot of lag
between liberal judges and the "new" conservative ones.

Don't have to tell me that! I'm a registered Democrat, as progressive and liberal as they come.

You need to tell DEMOCRATS like Obama to stop acting like REPUBLICANS so goddamn much of the time! Yes, he's appointed some good judges, but he's also way too fucking accommodating to big banks, Wall Street, the fracking industry, the spying industry, etc., etc.

Hot Damn, Gryphen! Congratulations on receiving the respect you deserve. Let's hope next time some moron attempts to slime their way out of Alaska or any other state, you and IM are given the credibility you have earned and will prevent another such disaster as Palin.

I'm one of those dyed in the wool Democrats who's never missed my chance to cast a vote, especially because of what this post means. Too many people take their vote for granted, and then when things go wrong, they're at the front of the line complaining.

Add me to the ones congratulating Gryphen and IM. Your feed is flying by so fast, and not just for the brawl story, but for many of the earlier gates. People are getting educated on the REAL Sarah Palin, her family, the company she keeps and who dressed her this morning.
